1. How did the neighborhood watch program start?
The Cabin Branch Neighborhood Watch Program started after we became aware of an increase in petty crime in the neighborhood. After reaching out to neighbors and law enforcement, Barbara Patricelli organized and implemented the Neighborhood Watch program. In Nov. 2018 Cabin Branch officially became a Watch community. The program is registered with the NNWI and recognized by Montgomery County law enforcement.
2. Is the Cabin Branch HOA involved with the neighborhood watch?
No. The community Neighborhood Watch is a resident-initiative in conjunction with the county police department and is not administrated through the HOA. The Cabin Branch HOA was however invited to participate but declined stating, "there typically is no involvement from the HOA or BOD with Neighborhood Watch groups." Holly Morgan/Community Director
3. How is the Cabin Branch NW monitored? Can I be a block captain?
The Watch Program is monitored by Montgomery County law enforcement. Block captains are not utilized because we encourage all homeowners and tenants to look out for everyone in the community not only nearby residents.
4. Why are there only two signs and who decides where to place these signs?
After receiving approval from the the NNWI, the Montgomery County police department and the county erected two signs that were installed by the highway department on county-owned roads. Since that time supporters have contributed to the purchase and installation of additional community signs. The coordinator in conjunction with the county's engineer determined where signs are placed within the community.
**UPDATE!! All signs have been installed on March 22, 2023 by the DOT. Please see sign locations here.
5. How many more signs will be installed?
To provide adequate coverage and with support through resident donations, additional signs were installed on 3/22/2023 at strategic locations within the community. For an update on sign locations recently installed please visit this page.

The size is 8"x12"and the cost is $8.00/each. A wooden post is already installed for your convenience. Supplies on hand are limited however so please Contact us to get yours today.

12. Is there anything else you can share?
Yes! Criminals are opportunists. You can lesson your chance of becoming a victim by being proactive. Turn on your garage and front porch lights at night. Use dusk to dawn light bulbs on outdoor lighting fixtures. Install security cameras front and back of your home equipped with night vision. Lock your house and car doors. Don't leave delivered packages outside of your house unattended. Arrange for neighbors to keep an eye on things while you're away. Share your contact number with neighbors you trust in case of an emergency. When outlet shopping leave your purse or wallet in the car. Carry keys, and cash or one credit card in a zippered pouch or pocket. Most of all be actively involved in keeping our community safe.
